A new U.S. administration will take office in January 2017. The new administration will face a broad range of challenges: an expansionist China, a resurgent and aggressive Russia, the continuing globalization of terrorism, an increasingly violent and unstable Middle East, and a socially and politically-fractured Europe. At home, domestic and global priorities and programs, to include defense spending, compete with an increasingly constrained national budget. Given our current commitments to security at home and abroad, in context with anticipated conditions and demands, it is appropriate to examine the broad range of national defense challenges the next administration will encounter.

The U.S. Army War College's Annual Strategy Conference for 2016 will take place on 27-28 April 2016. The format for this year's conference differs from that of previous conferences, which featured events hosted at Carlisle Barracks, Pennsylvania. This year, the conference is framed around four defense strategy panels, co-hosted with leading think tanks in Washington, D.C., over two days. A keynote presentation given at the U.S. Army War College will precede the first panel, and the last panel will be followed by closing comments also delivered at the USAWC. Our goal is to broaden the access afforded to our military, government, and public audiences by making all conference events available via real-time broadcast on the internet, and for later viewing through recorded webcasts.
