In January, the Atlantic Council published two of Dr. John Deni's op-eds, "Brigade Combat Team Cuts Don't Translate into Budget Savings" and "Interoperability in an Age of Austerity," on the New Atlanticist Policy and Analysis Blog.

On January 23, Dr. Steven Metz published the chapter, "Rethinking Insurgency," in The Routledge Handbook of Insurgency and Counterinsurgency, edited by Paul B. Rich and Isabelle Duyvesteyn.

On January 31, Dr. Jeffrey McCausland delivered a lecture on the military and the media at the annual conference of the International Society for Military Ethics at the University of San Diego.
