USAWC Strategy Conference

Join us in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, from April 9-11, 2013, for the 24th Annual Strategy Conference as we explore American Landpower implications associated with an evolving national security strategy. Conference debaters, panelists, and speakers will examine how the U.S. Government and the U.S. Army can meet the challenges of the future security environment in light of sequestration, military downsizing, and an evolving international security environment. Fundamental assumptions of the conference are: that the U.S. economy is the foundation of America's strength and security; that diplomacy backed by a strong military is necessary to shape America's future engagement around the world; and, that Landpower development initiatives must take place within this reality.

This year, Dr. John Mearsheimer of the University of Chicago will kick off the event as the opening keynote speaker, and Dr. Andrew Krepinevich will provide the banquet keynote address. The conference will also include an onstage interview by Margaret Warner of the PBS NewsHour.

Registration is free! See http://strategicstudiesinstitute.army.mil/conf/

In January, Dr. Steven Metz participated in the Special Operations Forces–Conventional Forces Integration Advisory Panel at Fort Bragg, NC; and was a panelist at a RAND Corporation workshop on armed groups in Iraq. Recent essays in Dr. Metz's weekly "Strategic Horizons" column for World Politics Review have dealt with: the strategy behind the U.S. drone program; preparing the military for operating after the use of nuclear weapons; U.S. relations with Arab monorchies; and, responding to provocation from North Korea.
