Research and Analysis
Cyber Infrastructure Protection, edited by Dr. Tarek N. Saadawi and COL Louis H. Jordan, Jr. This book answers several essential questions: What is cyberpower; how do we deal with emerging threats in cyberspace; what are the lessons that have already been learned; and where are the current cyberspace vulnerabilities?

Central Asian Security Trends: Views from Europe and Russia, edited by Dr. Stephen J. Blank. The war in Afghanistan has made Central Asia an ever more important strategic theater and one over which many states compete to exert influence. This monograph comprehensively analyzes Russia's efforts to exert its influence in the region through 2010.

The Military's Role in Counterterrorism: Examples and Implications for Liberal Democracies, by Dr. Geraint Hughes. The Military’s Role in Counterterrorism examines the roles which armed forces have been required to perform by democratic governments involved in combating terrorism, and the problems which can occur as a consequence. It also describes the conditions necessary for successful military engagements against terrorist groups.

Improvised Explosive Devices in Iraq, 2003-09: A Case of Operational Surprise and Institutional Response, by Brigadier Andrew Smith. Institutional defense establishments guide the development of national military capabilities. Recent experience suggests that the orthodox approaches that they have evolved to perform this function in nominal peacetime are insufficiently responsive for contemporary threats and challenges.

American Society and Its Profession of Arms, by Dr. Leonard Wong. Our inaugural "online only" colloquium brief provides key insights, videos, photos, and panel summaries from the U.S. Army War College's 22nd Annual Strategy Conference that took place on April 5-7, 2011.
