COL Thomas Kardos

Colonel Tom Kardos is the Deputy Director, Strategic Studies Institute at the US Army War College. He concurrently serves as Director of Academic Engagement and administers the Chief of Staff of the Army's Senior Fellows Program.

He is a 1986 graduate of the Virginia Military Institute. Upon graduation, he was commissioned a Second Lieutenant of Infantry. Colonel Kardos served operational assignments at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, the Republic of South Korea, and Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He deployed to Iraq once with the 101st Airborne Division and twice with the 82nd Airborne Division, where he served as a Brigade Operations Officer and the Deputy Division Operations Officer.

Colonel Kardos is a senior Army Strategist. He served as a contingency plans officer, Chief of Theater Plans, and Deputy Chief of Strategy for the US European Command in Stuttgart, Germany. He was twice assigned to the State Department as part of the United States Security Coordinator Mission to Israel and the Palestinian Authority.

Colonel Kardos holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Virginia Military Institute, a Master of Administration from Central Michigan University, a Master of Military Arts and Sciences from the School of Advanced Military Studies, as well as a Master in Strategic Studies from the Army War College.
