Photo Colonel Larry Papini assumed duty as the Director, Academic Engagement, U.S. Army War College, in November 2003 following a brief tour in Rome, Italy, where he served as the Chief, Office of Defense Cooperation. He began his career as an Air Defense Artillery Officer. His previous assignments included commanding a Nike Hercules Warhead Detachment while assigned to the 559th Artillery Group, SETAF, Vicenza, Italy; battery commands with 1-62 ADA, 25th Infantry Division (Light) Schofield Barracks, Hawaii; and commanding an Air Defense Artillery Training Support Battalion at Fort Bliss, Texas. Colonel Papini most recently served as the Chief, Military Liaison Team, Tirana, Albania. During Operations ENDURING FREEDOM and IRAQI FREEDOM, he served as the EUCOM LNO to CENTCOM (Forward), Doha, Qatar. He has served in a variety of staff positions within the continental United States and overseas. Other assignments include Military Personnel Officer, Office of the Program Manager, Saudi Arabian National Guard Modernization Program, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia; Assistant Division Air Defense Officer, Battalion Operations Officer, and later Executive Officer, 2-44 ADA, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Kentucky; Plans Officer and later Director of Personnel, J1, while serving with Joint Task Force-Six, Fort Bliss, Texas; and as the Director of Academic Outreach, U.S. Army War College, Carlisle Barracks, Pennsylvania. Colonel Papini's military education includes the Air Defense Artillery Basic and Advanced Courses, Defense Language Institute Italian language course, the Armed Forces Staff College, Joint and Combined Staff Officers Course, and the Italian War College (Scuola di Guerra Corso Superiore). Colonel Papini graduated with a B.A. in Political Science from The Citadel in 1978.
