Dr. Jack J. Porter

Dr. Jack J. Porter is an assistant professor of political science at The Citadel where he teaches courses on international relations, comparative politics, U.S. national security, theories of peace and war, and international law. Currently, Dr. Porter is working on several projects that include: civil-military relations in the transition to democracy, counterinsurgency strategies and power, notions of legitimacy in the emerging Afghan national armed forces, and religion in democratic militaries. Over the past few years, Dr. Porter has spent time in South Africa, Germany, Belgium, and France conducting research related to the above projects. He previously was a Presidential Management Intern (PMI) with the Office of the Secretary of Defense, DoD (1991-93). Dr. Porter holds a B.A. from Colgate University, a master's of international affairs (MIA) from Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA), and an M.A. and Ph.D. in political science from the University of California, Berkeley.
