LTC Derek O'Malley

Lt Col Derek "Maestro" O'Malley was commissioned in the USAF in 1998 and subsequently accumulated more than 2100 flight hours in operational flying assignments in the F-16 and the F-35. This included planning and flying in the initial "shock and awe" campaign of Operation Iraqi Freedom. For his combat actions, he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for heroism. During his three years at the F-16 Weapons School, he was a three-time winner of the Overall Outstanding Instructor Award, two-time winner of the Outstanding Instructor Wingman Award, and also won the Outstanding Academic Instructor Award-an accomplishment unprecedented in the squadron's 30-year history. Lt Col O'Malley is currently a student at the United States Army War College in Carlisle Barracks, Pennsylvania.
