Partnering with SSI

Through its Strategic Engagement Program, SSI collaborates with premier universities and research institutes to examine key strategic issues identified by the Army and the Joint Community. SSI and its partners study these issues at academic colloquia which bring together renowned subject matter experts from academia, government, and industry. The resultant publications inform policy makers and senior military staff. Past university partners include Harvard, Duke, Georgetown, Princeton, Oxford, Columbia, Queen’s, Miami, Chicago, and research centers including the Brookings Institute and the National Bureau of Asian Research. Conference co-sponsors have included U.S. PACOM, U.S. SOUTHCOM, the Department of Defense, and the Department of Army. Read more about partnering with SSI.

ON-SITE OPPORTUNITIES

Visiting Research Professors

CURRENTLY NOT ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS:  Each year SSI offers one or two visiting research professorships. These are research positions with no teaching and very limited administrative duties. The successful candidate will advance his or her own research agenda while simultaneously producing SSI studies on relevant strategic topics which will be distributed to military leaders, government officials, civilian academics, and the global strategic community. Read more about visiting research professorships.

OFF-SITE OPPORTUNITIES

Adjunct Professors

CURRENTLY NOT ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS:  SSI offers adjunct professorships to select LTCs or COLs in the Army National Guard (ARNG), U.S. Army Reserve (USAR), retired active component, and civilian scholars and practitioners. These are research positions with no teaching. The successful candidate will possess qualifications as outlined in Carlisle Barracks Memorandum 351-1 and will have the opportunity to advance his or her own research agenda while simultaneously producing SSI studies on relevant strategic topics which will be distributed to military leaders, government officials, civilian academics, and the global strategic community. While SSI may be able to provide some research support for projects by adjunct professors, these are honorific, unpaid positions.
