Are the principal intergovernmental organizations focused on European security — NATO and the European Union — capable of handling the vast array of challenges confronting the transatlantic community today? The EU and NATO face a number of hurdles. This study take a unique perspective – that of European partners and allies – in suggesting to U.S. policymakers how Washington ought to consider adjusting its approach in Europe and beyond, as a means of helping NATO and the EU to provide credible, sustainable collective security and defense, to promote U.S. as well as allied interests.
