Mr. Joshua Arostegui is the Chair of China Studies and Research Director of the China Landpower Studies Center (CLSC) at the U.S. Army War College’s Strategic Studies Institute. Mr. Arostegui’s areas of expertise and primary research topics include Chinese strategic landpower, People’s Liberation Army joint operations, and Indo-Pacific security affairs. He previously served seven years as a Senior China Analyst and another five years as a China Military Forces and Defense Industries Analyst for the U.S. Army’s National Ground Intelligence Center (NGIC). Mr. Arostegui is also a Chief Warrant Officer 5 in the U.S. Navy Reserve where he serves as an advisor to Information Warfare Community senior leadership. His 29 years of active and reserve Naval service include assignments in INDOPACOM, EUCOM, and CENTCOM.
Mr. Arostegui earned a M.A. in International Relations from Salve Regina University and a M.A. in History from the University of Nebraska at Kearney. He holds a B.A. in International Relations with a focus on China Studies from American Military University and an A.A. in Chinese from the Defense Language Institute (DLI). He is a graduate of the Defense Language Institute Basic and Intermediate Mandarin Chinese Courses and completed an executive Chinese language program at the Beijing Institute of Economic Management. He is also a graduate of the U.S. Marine Corps Command and Staff College Distance Education Program.
