Rick Gunnell is the Research Professor of China Military Studies at the US Army War College’s China Landpower Studies Center. Mr. Gunnell is a language-enabled subject matter expert on the PLA, open-source intelligence (OSINT) analyst, and educator. Mr. Gunnell’s research focuses on the PLA as an organization, its personnel, and the CCP’s information, influence, and interference operations.
Throughout his career, Mr. Gunnell has contributed to over 2,000 multilingual OSINT reports and published on the Central Military Commission, PLA’s strategic-level command and control during a protracted war, PLA capabilities to respond to a crisis along the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, PLA weaknesses, and the PLA Army’s role in maritime operations. Mr. Gunnell frequently travels to Washington DC and Hawaii to instruct senior political and military leaders on CCP grand strategy, malign operations, strategic-level PLA organizations and persons, PRC defense industrial complex, and table-top exercises. Mr. Gunnell is a graduate of Dickinson College and enrolled in the US Army War College’s graduate program for Strategic Studies.
