The People’s Liberation Army (PLA) Army service support brigade (SSB) serves as the nerve center and physical foundation for a modern group army (GA) by establishing, operating, and protecting its critical command post (CP). To maintain and shield the headquarters’ multidomain connectivity, half of the SSB’s structure is dedicated to a digital nervous system” consisting of command, control, communications, and electronic countermeasure battalions. The remaining half acts as an operational sustainment engine, utilizing specialized guard, repair, and transportation battalions to physically secure the perimeter while providing theater-level maintenance and logistical mobility. Despite these robust capabilities, the SSB exhibits key vulnerabilities—including risk-averse peacetime training habits and heavy transport bottlenecks—that present opportunities to disrupt the GA’s command links and operational tempo.
